The mountains 'round here
The Alps are probably the best known mountains in the world
(where does the term "alpine" come from, after all?)
and certainly some of the most beautiful.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama, during a recent
visit in the province of Trento
in the summer of 2001, in all his wisdom said that the Alps reminded him of his own mountains in Tibet,
which unfortunately he's not allowed to see.
Carè Alto, one summer in the late 80s
I shot this picture in the summer of 1987
near the lake of Malga Bissina
in the valley of Daone (in the west of Trentino).
Probably the best picture ever fallen into my camera.

The Paganella after the first serious snowfall in November 1996
The Paganella is about 8 km away from my home.
This is the south-east face, roughly the view I have from my living room,
except that currently there is a big cherry tree outside of the relevant window.
Unfortunately the ski slopes are on the other side,
but you can see the mass of TV and radio broadcast antennas on the top.
(Update:
I just noticed that if you look very closely at the peak about 1/5th
from the right side, which is the highest peak of this lovely mountain,
you can in fact recognize a hut and the arrival point of one
of the chairlifts.)

The lake of Vernago (1689 m)
Taken on a mid summer's afternoon on the way home after a snowboard ride
in the Senales valley
(one of my favourite snowboarding resorts),
looking west from the village of Vernago.
Pretty good photograph for a disposable camera.
I don't know the names of the mountains in the background,
but they're some of the 3000+ m (10000+ feet) peaks that abound in this area.

The Brenta dolomites from Monte Bondone
Taken January 4, 2003 at 16:46:28, just after sunset when the clouds were still glowing red.
