Did you create it with fglrxconfig? If that's the case, you don't need

Yes.  Actually I created config by fglrxconfig and merged adapter-dependent 
part of it into my personal hand-crafted one.

Actually I've seen something related to your problem in Catalyst 4.3 on Win.
There are two options to alternate DVI frequencies or something like that with 
comments like "tinker with them if see no picture on your LCD".  Turning them 
on/off brings no any visible difference on my hardware.  IMHO there should be 
such options for linux driver too.
