Hmmm... Oopses are a Bad Thing. The most likely cause is trying to load a module that was built with a different compiler version or incompatible options wrt. the running kernel, but it looks like you're building everything yourself so that shouldn't be the case.
If I understand correctly, you didn't have oopses at first, but I really can't see what could be wrong here. If you have time to spend on this issue, I'd suggest to build a 2.4 kernel and see if that works. I did run fglrx on 2.6 for some time, but not 2.6.5 and anyway I'm currently using 2.4 because I need to use another driver that doesn't work on 2.6 (the RT2400 driver, in case anyone's curious). I'm much more confident that 2.4 will work.
