Mobility U1? I admit I've never heard of that before. What kind of Radeon would that be equivalent to?

Judging by the error message you get, the fglrx driver never heard about it either, so it doesn't recognize it as something it can drive. I'm afraid I can't do anything about it, because as far as I can see the list of supported PCI IDs is in the binary-only part of the driver. You'll have to submit a support request to ATI and hope that the next release recognizes your chip.

Or hack the binary driver. :)
