I tried it again on my laptop with a 2.4.27 kernel, and it worked without any
problems,
except one compilation warning:
firegl_public.c:207:1: warning: "pte_unmap" redefined
firegl_public.c:140:1: warning: this is the location of the previous definition
See attached patch for getting rid of it.

Do these patches affect compilation on previous kernel releases? As you
certainly understand, I want to stay compatible with previous kernels.
I tested them (compilation test) with kernel version 2.6.9, without any major
errors.
On another laptop, running stock debian kernel version 2.4.26-1-i386 it compiled,
but didn't loaded ok (driver version 3.14.6); I'll try to test to see if my
patches
are to blame and get back to you probably tomorrow.
just for the record, the kernel module will not compile and will not run
under the latest -mm patch [...] becuase the DRM has been cleaned up and
the initialisation process has changed.
Does 3.14.6 fix this, as far as you know?
unfortunatelly no ..
As I told to Øystein Gisnås, I hope somebody else, with much more experience then
me will do it first. I had a patch, but as it's not logically/functionally correct
I discarded it.
