noisy fan graphic card

Hi together,
it seems that the fan of the graphics adapter (Radeon Fire GL T2,
Thinkpad 42) is nonstop "on".
I did some google-research and it seems that it has nothing to do with
the cpu-fan. Thus, it is really the fan of the Radeon.
I use debian sarge and xfree.4.3.0.1
Is there any opportunity to throttle the fan via fglrx according to the
temperature of the fan?
I read that for the x.org xserver, there is an option - but I do not use
the x.org xserver.
thanks,
leo
