Trouble with fglrx sync on a IBM T41p laptop

Hi Folks,

I installed the packages following the wonderful instructions on the
web site.  Everything went smoothly but the lcd monitor acts as if it
has no horizontal sync.

This is Debian/Sarge(testing) with kernel 2.6.9 with the swsusp2
patches.

I tried both the suggested changes to XF86config-4 and the fglrxconfig
generated XF86config-4.

I notice that someone had this working on a T41p.  Hopefully, I'm doing
something obviously wrong.  Any ideas?
