fglrx driver / 1024mb ram

hello,
today i upgraded my notebook (ati mobility radeon x600, 64mb memory) from
512mb to 1024mb ram. fglrx works fine with 512mb but with 1024mb xfree86
doesn't come up. the display just turns black and the cpu usage rises up to
99% (used by xfree86).
i recompiled my kernel (2.6.11.5) with highmem support (4gb) and also the
fglrx driver.
cat /proc/mtrr says:
reg00: base=0x00000000 ( 0MB), size=1024MB: write-back, count=1
reg01: base=0x3ff00000 (1023MB), size= 1MB: uncachable, count=1
any idea what makes the difference for fglrx between 512mb and 1024mb ram?
if i detach one of the both 512mb ram modules, fglrx works fine.
thanks for your help.
martin
