Re: Trouble with Radeon 9600 and X.org 6.8.2 on AMD64

(oops, did not make it on the list)

My suggestion would be to verify that the libGL is not the default libGL.

Yes, I did that. fglrxinfo is using the binary libGL provided by ATI.

For the short term, fglrx will continue to require it's own libGL.
LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT may also provide some exxtra information.

Is than an environment variable? It is not set here, so it should have
no influence.

Another thing to check that the usage count on the kernel module is
non-zero.

fglrx 272320 7

Anyway, I did a downgrade to 4.3, and the situation is exactly the
same. And I remember why I did the upgrade in the firstplace: whatever
I configure, the ati driver in 4.3 does not work. All bitmaps seem to
be corruct, text is illegible and the cursor is just noise. If I turn
off acceleration, it gets worse...

With the fglrx driver, everything is fine (apart from direct
rendering), but I still get occasional crashes.

Ok, so I could try a stock 64bit kernel, or even 32bit kernel (+
userland). Otherwise I don't see any options.
