Yes, "apt-get remove" is just the same.

The fglrx kernel module was built correctly, but did you install it into
the proper subdirectory of /lib/modules/ ? Did you check if it loads
with "modprobe fglrx" ? If you did, please look for errors in the output
from dmesg and into the XFree86.0.log file.
