OK, I've prepared would-be official packages of 8.12.10:
Tomorrow, time permitting, I'll take some time to file an ITP.
I just discovered that an ITP for fglrx has been filed already:
I couldn't find specific instructions on how to proceed in this case
(see http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/), so I'm asking for suggestions.
I guess I should add my own message to the ITP saying that I have
packages ready and Michel is willing to sponsor the upload, but then we
could just upload packages and close the bug altogether.
To help you understand where we are and what needs to be done, here's a
short report on a few issues raised by Michel in a private message a few
* The .diff.gz is now confined to the debian directory.
* The .orig.tar.gz currently contains only the i386 binaries, so the
packages are only for i386; I have a few ideas on how to put both the
i386 and amd64 binaries together, but since the amd64 port is far from a
release I didn't want to spend time on this issue right now.
* Checking with lintian: there are some errors caused by the binaries
("shlib-with-non-pic-code", "unstripped-binary-or-object"), but we can't
fix them AFAIK as we don't have the sources; there are also some
warnings that can be fixed (for example, "binary-without-manpage
fireglcontrol" which should be easy enough).
It is my opinion that the packages are ready to go into experimental,
where hopefully they'll get a piercing look by some smart people that
can spot problems and suggest improvements.
Michel, if you want to check that the packages are genuine, a signed
source.changes file is available here:
