Black screen with fglrx-driver_8.12.10-1_amd64.deb

Hi all,

I'm just trying the new release on my pure64 debian system.   I use 
kernel 2.6.8, and the driver fglrx.ko is made and loads fine using modprobe.

But when trying to start X, black screen appears.  Until that, both X 
and console remain blacks, but the system works.  I can reboot the 
system (withou seeing what I'm writing).

Is this a problem with the display ?  My monitor is a LG TFT 17''.    
Any ideas ?
