i followed the installation-instructions provided by ati and they didn't  
mention this parameter, i will remember that. nevertheless it's bad style.

the synaptics tp is simply not found. i just checked extensively and it  
comes down to:
- starting with external mouse attached -> tp is not recognized
- starting without external mouse -> tp works like it used to and i can  
attach the external mouse and both work like they used to before
the bios does not have _any_ option to configure mouses.
as said before: with 8.14.13 it worked fully, with 8.16.20 and the same  
xorg.conf the issue described above. imo that's a bug in the ati-xserver.
