I don't know what's going on, but I suppose there's something very wrong
with your system.
Check that you actually have "make" installed. Does /usr/bin/make exist? Is
it readable and executable? If you type "make -h" at the command prompt,
does it print an usage message or does it print some error?
Try running "debian/rules build" instead of dpkg-buildpackage. Then, if it
works, try "fakeroot debian/rules binary". Please tell us what happens.
