Applications using XV extension crashes X.org

Hi,

my Radeon 9700 worked perfect with the wonderful packages from Flavio on.

But recently, after I migrated from XFree to X.org, or maybe after I installed
some MPlayer windows codecs, applications like xine that use the xv extension 
chrash X.org. The app starts up but before startup is completed, after ca. 3 secs,
X.org crashes.

If I replace fglrx with ati or radeon in an otherwise unchanged xorg.conf 
everything works fine, but of course then 3D acceleration is gone.

I have deinstalled MPLayer and all windows codecs, but that didn't help. 

Any ideas over what's going on?
