Re: External Monitor and LCD

Xinerama doesn't work in the fglrx world. What you want to do is run the
fglrx-config and choose big desktop, and then specify the resolutions that
you want. The questions are pretty self explanitory. Good luck.

Hello.

I would like to use my external Monitor (a Sony G400) and also the LCD of
my
Laptop. I would like to run the LCD of my Laptop at a resolution of
1400x1050
and the external Monitor at a resolution of 1280x1024. The external
Monitor
should be placed LeftOf the LCD (for example so that i can have kmail open
in
one monitor and browse the net using firefox in the other one).

I am currently using xfree86 4.3 and fglrx 8.16.20 with Kernel 2.6.11.9<http://2.6.11.9>on an
IBM Thinkpad T40p. The card I have is a Radeon Mobility 9000, the system
is a
Debian Sarge.

I tried doing so using the Option "Xinerama" in the xfree86-config file,
but
this seems to have no effect. I used:

Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "Default Layout"
Screen "LCD"
Screen "EXTERNAL"
Screen "EXTERNAL" LeftOf "LCD"
Option "Xinerama"
InputDevice "Generic Keyboard"
InputDevice "Configured Mouse"
EndSection

But still my external monitor just shows me a clone of what is on the LCD,
at
a virtual resolution of 1400x1050.

Isn't it somehow possible to run an external monitor at a different
resolution
than the one used with the LCD?
If anyone could give me a hint, or maybe has a working setup of this and
could
send me a config-file I'dd be glad.

Thanks already in advance
