I think the release notes only mention the cards that are newly
supported in the given release. You can find the full list of supported
cards somewhere in the driver download area and (with some caveats) in
the X server log file.

I tried even to change ChipID on my xorg.conf to that displayed by lspci as 
follows: 

0000:02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc: Unknown device 
5b63 ----- THIS ONE (as ChipID 0x5b63)
0000:02:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc: Unknown device 5b73 

but it still does not work, 

Sure, overriding the chip's ID to its actual ID doesn't have any
effect. :)

so I guess I could try the ChipID from an X300. Anyone knows this ChipID? 

Should be in the log file.
