X.Org FGLRX Brekdown

Hey guys,

I am running Debian testing with an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro. I had graphics working great with 3D acceleration until X got switched to X.org, when direct rendering stopped working. I tried installing the new packages generated from the ATI installer and would boot up to a black screen. I decided to update my kernel to 2.6.13.4 from 2.6.7 (for various reasons). I then built the driver module and installed flavio's binaries. Still no 3D acceleration, but graphics worked. Last night I went through an entire reinstall of the fglrx driver, building my own packages from the source provided by flavio's site. Still no direct rendering. I have dug through so many tutorials and FAQ's and can not diagnose the problem.

Output of LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose fglrxinfo:

libGL error: XF86DRIQueryDirectRenderingCapable returned false
