Search for failure

Hi together,
I have some very general questions about finding out why 3d acceleration
does not work.
In case the fglrx module is loaded, but fglrx does not work, am I
correct when I say the other kernel config does not matter?
When the message "(II) fglrx(0): DRI initialization successfull!" can be
read in Xorg.0.log, is it right to claim that the xorg driver is OK and
the module is found correctly?
If both is true, which additional 3D packages must be installed on a
debian system?
If they are installed, are there other possible failures that prevent 3d
acceleration from working correctly?
Thanks a lot in advance.
Greetings, Tobias
