crash on X.org exit

Hi all,
I have a problem where exiting the X session will hang the computer with a corrupted screen (white vertical lines). Nothing shows up in the X.org logs. Quitting the X server by switching virtual consoles and interrupting or killing the server does not hang the machine.

I only see this problem with the fglrx drivers.
I have debian sid, linux 2.6.14 SMP
fglrx 8.19.10-1
xorg 6.8.2-10
I have X.org set up in a dual-monitor "large framebuffer" Xinerama configuration as per
  Option "DesktopSetup" "horizontal,reverse"

Maybe someone on the list has any ideas as to how to debug this further?

I have a Radeon 9550 video card:
0000:01:05.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV350 ?? [Radeon 9550] (Secondary)

on an AMD dual 2400MP computer.
