fglrx in X.Org 6.9?

Has anyone tried using the current fglrx in X.Org 6.9?
Of course, it doesn't support the new acceleration architecture (and it
probably will sometime between February 2017 and never, knowing the good
folks at ATI ;-), but the old interfaces have not been removed AFAIK and
might even be binary compatible.
If it works, how about loosening the dependencies of the Debian package
to make it installable with 6.9 (or creating a 6.9 package)?
