I last 2 installation attempts were by generating packages but before
that I did try to install directly. Maybe that /usr/X11R6/lib64 is a
residue of an earlier installation.  I didn't know that /usr/X11R6/lib64
was not a directory of the Debian system. Thanks for sorting me out.
