Can't stop the xserver-xfree86 !

Hello,
I installed the ati driver on my laptop DELL Inspiron 8600c with a
Radeon 9600 Pro 128Mo. The Direct Rendering is working fine and glxgears
works at 2146 FPS...
But...
It's impossible to halt the computer... I have a beautiful dark screen
and I must reboot the PC by hand...
Help me !
